Message of the Executive Director

Dr. Farrukh Iqbal

Aristotle is supposed to have said that one of the qualities of an educated mind is that it can entertain a thought without necessarily accepting it. This idea captures the essence of tolerance, the ability to appreciate, and co-exist with, a diverse range of beliefs. I think Aristotle was right. Education should lead to tolerance and co-existence. Otherwise, what really is the mark of an educated person?

I hope you will take a minute to consider the importance of the previous paragraph. I hope that you will find echoes of what it says in what you have observed and experienced in your years at IBA. And I hope that you will consider living by the values implied in it so that you can make your society more tolerant, accepting and compassionate.

No matter where your future pathways take you and no matter what you end up doing, I wish you the best and hope that you carry the value of tolerance forever.

Farrukh Iqbal
Executive Director
